Grit For The Masses
Grit For The Masses is my first zine publication, exploring the grittiness of the mundane as a poetic medium—an ode to the beauty found in what we overlook. Inspired by DIY zine culture, it embraces imperfection, intimacy, and the inevitable wear and tear of life’s unexpected installments.
The alias for the house these zines were born in is called, "Feunicades", a made-up name derived from my personal alias, Feunica. It was born from a realization that I had been collecting a pile of images that, by conventional standards, might seem uninteresting, even unappealing. But to me, they meant everything.
These were little corners, worn-out walls, abandoned objects —things I captured in passing. Yet, over time, they took on a poetic mission in my life. In these quiet remnants and warnings, I began to see the world differently. They speak of our grounded desires, our longing, and the traces of time we rarely pause to acknowledge.
I’ve come to describe this as “the grit in all its ways.” It’s about finding beauty in the raw and the worn, in the way life unfolds through small, unplanned moments—its unexpected installments. These images remind me of how we try to smooth things over to hide the wear, but the grit remains, telling its own story.
Naturally, I began pairing these visuals with words and themes, letting them shape each other. This zine is my way of honoring the quiet truths found in the spaces between.
